Dalton State College is pleased to welcome award-winning blues
artist E. G. Kight back to campus for an evening of jazz, country,
Southern rock, gospel, and blues on Tuesday, December 1, in the
Goodroe Auditorium of Memorial Hall.
The concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m., is sponsored by the Fine
Arts and Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.
“E. G. Kight is a versatile entertainer who has performed at blues
festivals and clubs both with her full band and as a solo artist,”
says Jane Taylor, Director of Public Relations at Dalton State.
“She is frequently called the ‘Georgia Songbird,’ and she has the
reputation for entertaining audiences with her rich vocals, her
intriguing acoustic guitar talent, and her humorous stories of life
in the South.”
Kight appeared at Dalton State earlier this year, says Taylor, and
was very popular with the Dalton State student population and
community members alike.
A native Georgian, Kight’s musical influences come from her mother,
who was a singer, and her grandmother, who played guitar. Her gift
for storytelling was influenced by her grandfather, a Southern
preacher. By the age of 16, she was performing at civic events and
festivals and had already written her first song. |

At a young age, Kight found herself performing on stage with country
music legends like George Jones and Jerry Lee Lewis. She has
co-produced and released six albums, with legendary artists Koko
Taylor, Lee Roy Parnell, Chris Hicks of the Marshall Tucker Band,
Kim Forester of the Forester Sisters, and Rolling Stones pianist
Chuck Leavell adding their talents to her releases.
Her latest release, It’s Hot in Here, climbed to #1 on the
Blues Roots chart and XM Radio’s Bluesville channel.
Kight is the only independent artist to be selected for inclusion on
two Get the Blues! albums, where she joins artists Delbert
McClinton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Keb’Mo’, Robert Cray, Muddy Waters,
and Koko Taylor. In addition, she has shared the stage with notables
Phoebe Snow, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Taj Mahal, Gregg Allman,
and Garrison Keillor.
